Pouring the Spirit
Joel 2:28-32

Compare Joel with the sermon by Peter in Acts 2:16-21. Notice the difference in expression of the time referred to. It is said that Bible needs to be read back to front. How does that apply to this passage? How does Peter interpret the "afterwards" in Joel 2:28?

When are the last days? When did they start? When do they end? How would you describe the last days? How would you rename the last days?

The special thing in the last days is pouring of the Spirit of God on all people. How is this different from the activity of the Holy Spirit in the times before?
-Consider the number of people mentioned receiving the Spirit of God in the Old testament and number of people who received the Holy Spirit on the single day of Pentecost.
-Consider the different kinds of people mentioned in Joel as among those who will receive the Spirit of God.

What is your experience of prophecy, dreams and visions? What about the whole variety of the charismatic gifts? Do you think you might have some of the gifts yourself? Do you have opportunities of using the gifts? How would the home group meeting be an opportunity to try out the gifts?

What was the content of the speaking in tongues when the apostles practiced that on the first Pentecost? What is Joel indicating as the purpose of prophecy, dreams and visions in verse 32?

Study what Paul says about the verse 32 in Rom 10:13-15.

How do we receive Holy Spirit? How does Joel describe the method God is using in giving Holy Spirit to us? What is required by us for receiving the Spirit?

Joel 2:28-32

28  “And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.
29 Even on the male and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit.

30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. 32 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls. (ESV)
