Page 1 of 2 Married in an ungodly environment · Many couples move to live
together before they get married. This is called co-habitation. This is
not the Christian way. You cannot try out marriage. Marriage should be
kept holy and honoured. Both men and women should be virgins until the
wedding night. This principle has been well understood in most cultures in
the world, but now in the "Western world" this is being
forgotten, and other cultures are following the same bad example.
Marriage is part of the creation order. This is why marriage is a
shared value in different cultures and religions. Yet humankind is
rebelling against the creation work of God. A recent sign of this
rebellion is the campaign to have a marriage-like relation legalised for
homosexual couples. This is being discussed in the Finnish Parliament
right now.
For Christians it is important that you can share your faith with your
married partner. The Bible advises that you should not bear an unequal
yoke with an unbeliever. Paul warns against getting married with an
unbeliever in the hope that your spouse might eventually become a
believer. How do you know that this will be the case? But on the other
hand Paul teaches, that if you become a believer while married to an
unbeliever, this is no basis for a divorce. Keep on loving and being
faithful to your spouse. Marriage is a lifelong commitment.
